The Thoughtful Traveler was founded by Lawrence Cohen in 2022. He is a lifelong traveler who is passionate about travel as a learning adventure. After years of travel, he became tired of single country focused “bucket list” oriented trips. He yearned for a different type of travel experience.

Lawrence has always been intrigued by the ‘Decline and Fall of the Roman empire’. He spent a year researching and writing a travel itinerary based on that grand theme. In 2021 he and his wife, Suzanne, ventured across Europe visiting Italy, Germany, Greece, Croatia and Turkey visiting late Roman sights. They had an extraordinary experience and Lawrence decided to launch a theme-based travel business: The Thoughtful Traveler. As they say, the rest is history.

He creates every travel itinerary from his own personal “on the ground” perspective. He is in affect your travel guide and your congenial companion. A world traveler and travel writer, Lawrence has visited six continents and over 40 countries and is the author of numerous travel guides covering topics ranging from the Beatles to Alexander the Great.

Lawrence is a prominent trust and estates attorney and senior partner at the international law firm of Nixon Peabody. In addition, he is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Classical Studies at Brandeis University and is serving as a trustee of the Albright Institute, one of the world’s leading archaeological organizations. Lawrence resides in Newton, Massachusetts with his wonderful wife and fellow travel companion, Suzanne, and has three globe trotting children.
